Am i too young for birth control im about to b 14 & my period is heavy & the cramps r insanely painful?

i just need help cause i told my mom and dad about it and my mom is willing to take me to the doctor. But i don't want my boyfriend of a year and 2 months to think that this means we can have sex cause i don't want to have sex and i made sure to make that clear to my mom and dad. I just don't know if its the best idea to take it. i mean will it really help the cramps? i mean they are so bad i cry to the point i can't get out of bed. Will it make my flow any lighter? or make my mood swings go away?
